Again select a group leader and have that person email me at jdietrick@fsu.edu the following information:

  1. Email subject heading: Wikipedia [and your artist’s name]
  2. In the email itself:
    1. Name of artist
    2. List of group members (in parenthesis after their name, list what each person worked on)
    3. A link to your published wikipedia article
  3. Follow pecha kucha instructions (no need to set timings since I’ll compile all ppts from each section into one larger ppt) and attached to the email your ppt or let me know that the ppt is coming through FSU Dropbox, https://dropbox.ucs.fsu.edu/

My Wikipedia Example

Folks! I did it! I just posted my first Wikipedia article. It’s on Kerry Tribe. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kerry_Tribe

She’s one of our visiting artists this semester. I give extra credit when you attend any of these lectures. Just respond in 200–300 words and post in the reply box to any post, ideally one close to the lecture date. Then it adds to the number of replies you do throughout the semester. Please email me your group’s wikipedia page by 5 am, Thursday, September 4. My email is jdietrick@fsu.edu

In the email, include your group member’s names and the writing you have so far.

Originally I requested that you right-click and save your Wikipedia entry preview page as a pdf to email as an attachment.
If this is difficult, please just cut and paste your group’s writing into a word doc and attach that. Pdfs and docs make giving feedback easy. Screenshot are a challenge.

I’ll also send you a link to a survey for the Digital Media area from my.fsu.edu. Look for it and participate! It will help the Department of Art to anticipate which courses you need when.

Ars Electronica Festival Next Week

Ars ElectronicaFestival 2014 is another great source for finding out about the best new media artists. It starts next week. More info at http://www.aec.at/c/en/programm/festival-that-shows/

2014-08-05 Welcome!

Welcome to the History of Art and Technology. I’m emailing you the syllabus early so you can have your textbook for the class asap and at a good price. Other helpful links:

We only have one textbook for this class.

  • Shanken, Edward. Art and Electronic Media: Themes and Movements. New York: Phaidon Press, 2009. ISBN: 9780714847825 (Strozier, N7433.8 .A78 2009) *on reserve at Strozier

The bookstore will have copies, but they will be more expensive.
Link on amazon is http://amzn.com/0714847828

The paperback version is not out until September 2014 so I’d go with the hardback instead of playing that game. Past students may also sell them to you for a discount just ask around.

See you August 26!
